About Jasper

Housing is one of the best features of the state of Georgia, and it has earned a reputation as one of the best regions in America not only for residential purposes but in other aspects as well. The state strikes a perfect balance to work, purchase real estate properties, start a business, raise a family, and eventually retire.

One of Georgia’s prime locations is Jasper, the county seat of Pickens County in Georgia. The community is 61 miles away from downtown Atlanta, or roughly an hour and five minutes of travel by land. The place is getting excellent reviews from listings, homeowner’s testimonials, and blogs.

The city was incorporated in 1857 and was named after Sergeant William Jasper. It is located south of the Chattahoochee National Forest, thereby making it “The First Mountain City” in Georgia. In nearby mountains, local quarrying produces unique pink marble. This is the reason why Jasper is known as Georgia’s Marble Capital.

You can enjoy good food at several local restaurants. A favorite among tourists is the Woodbridge Inn, a dining destination run by Chef Hans Rueffert. The restaurant offers signature dishes and even cooking lessons, altogether offering a scenic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Many tourists go to Jasper for its spectacular attractions including the famous Tate House, a structure made of pink marble and home to the famous marble magnate Sam Tate. Get a taste of the infamous local wines from the Sharp Mountain Vineyards, and drop by other attractions like Big Canoe, Bent Tree and The Preserve at Sharp Mountain. Just a few minutes away from Jasper is Talking Rock, a place where you can go shopping for antiques, explore the historic school house museum, and check the artists’ displays.

Life in Jasper can never be boring for sure, but a big reason why some people move to Jasper is the growing economy. Jasper boasts of an exciting market, and this is evident in events like the Georgia Marble Festival, which takes place every October. Residents also enjoy the Big Canoe Golf Club, the Marble Valley Historical Society and the Sharp Mountain Vineyards.

The city exudes a sense of friendliness probably owing to its quaint environment near the mountains. In addition, crime rate is very low, the cost of living is reasonable, and population is manageable. All of these things amount to the value that locals and visitors have placed in Jasper.
